About Computer Science, BSc - at Murdoch University

Organisations in every industry rely on computers. As a computer scientist, it will be up to you to help develop effective solutions, positively benefiting the world around us.

In this degree, you'll explore the theory, methods and systems used by the computing industry. By developing the skills and knowledge you need to design and develop revolutionary ideas, you'll create concepts and technologies that can change the world.

Learning about algorithms, software design and implementation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and computer systems and development will give you the unique ability to create and apply computer and software systems to solve real-world problems.

In the final year of your degree, you'll take part in a professional practice project unit. This will include working in a team with other students and consulting with real clients in order to recommend, develop and implement new technologies to solve business problems.

Entry requirements

Minimum English Requirements

For admission into Murdoch you must be able to provide evidence of competency in the English language. This is usually achieved through one of the following:

  • A scaled score of 50% or more in ATAR English, English Literature or English as a Second Language (or interstate equivalent).
  • An Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall score of 6.0 (with no band below 6.0) or equivalent scores for the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, TOEFL iBT or the Occupational English Test (OET).
  • Successful completion of a University enabling course (e.g. OnTrack, FlexiTrack).
  • A score of 140 or more in the Written English component of the STAT test
  • Successful completion of either a Diploma (AQF Level 5 or higher) OR two University-level units (AQF Level 7 or higher).
