About Creative Production (Film), MA - at Catalyst - Institute for Creative Arts and Technology
“The film of tomorrow will resemble the person who made it.” – François Truffaut
The MA in Creative Production (Film) is a postgraduate programme for filmmakers and audiovisual artists who want to turn bold ideas into powerful, innovative work. Rooted in a flexible framework of negotiated and self-directed learning, this course is built for those ready to explore their cinematic voice, challenge their craft and rethink the boundaries of storytelling.
At the heart of the programme is your own evolving research question – one that you’ll investigate through a series of creative, theoretical and technical projects. You’ll engage in rigorous practice-based research, supported by seminars, workshops, supervision, and Catalyst’s professional filmmaking facilities. Your journey is supported, but not prescribed: the aim is not to deliver answers, but to spark curiosity, deepen creative inquiry and offer tools for transformation – as a director, producer, editor, writer, cinematographer, or interdisciplinary maker.
Throughout the programme, you’ll take part in collaborative workshops in cinematography, directing, editing, sound, post-production and screenwriting. Alongside these, thematic sessions in areas such as creative nonfiction, hybrid cinema, representation and expanded media will help you situate your work within a wider artistic and political context.
Whether you’re rethinking genre, exploring new forms, or developing a deeply personal vision, this programme offers the space, support and challenge to bring your next body of work to life – and redefine what cinema can be.
