Ginevra Franchi

“Design is an important tool for social innovation”

Ginevra Franchi studied at IED Milano the three-year course in Product Design and completed her academic background with a Master's in Design, Strategy and Innovation. In 2015, just after graduating of her Master’s, founded Cono Studio, a strategic design studio focused on product and communication design.

Her work has been featured in different institutions such as Triennale di Milano, the Maxxi in Rome, and the Mocenigo Museum in Venice.

“I belive that design is a tool for innovation, especially in the realm of social innovation. This belief has been shaped by my experience in executing various social design projects in Italy and Senegal”, explains.

Nicoletta Ginetti

After studying Fashion Design in Rome, Nicoletta is now Head of Luxury line Fifty Made for The Giving Movement, a sustainable fashion company.

From the classrooms of the IED in Rome to leading a luxury line for a fashion company committed to creating environmentally friendly products, it is sometimes a short journey.

It is this path that Nicoletta Ginetti has followed, an IED Roma Alumna with a Diploma in Fashion Design. She is now responsible for a line of products within The Giving Movement brand.

The philosophy of the brand is very clear: Small acts multiplied by many can transform the world. A set of principles that also guides Nicoletta's work.

How did your path continue after graduating from IED?

Let me start by saying that the IED programme played a significant role in my career development. After graduating from IED, I immediately got into the world of fashion and have never stopped since.

It was after several training internships that I received my first assignment as a Junior Womenswear designer at Roberto Cavalli. Since I held a variety of roles during that period, it served as a stepping stone in my career. I reluctantly left Roberto Cavalli after two years for a higher position at PHILIPP Plein, a pivotal brand in my career. From Junior to Senior, then Head Designer, I was responsible for the women's line of this luxury brand for six years.

What does your work entail nowadays?

Today I am managing a luxury start-up line in Dubai for the brand The Giving Movement, whose name is Fifty Made, which will be available on all platforms and in stores soon.

The Giving Movement is a sustainable brand that has been very successful ever since it was founded three years ago. Similarly, Fifty Made was created with a luxury imprint as a niche brand. Sustainable and entirely Made in Italy.

What role does sustainability play in the fashion world?

I think that sustainability is no longer a taboo in the fashion industry. In order to ensure a better future for the next generation and the planet, more and more brands are contributing to initiatives such as recycling and sustainable production processes.

Nicoletta now holds a key position in a company that pays close attention to the traceability of raw materials and the impact of every product. Consequently, organisations are seeking candidates who are prepared for this paradigm shift, and IED Roma's Master Course in Fashion Design is designed to meet this need. In fact, in this course, students learn how to work with a production fabric that is increasingly committed to making a positive impact on the environment and people.

Marta Iglesias

“Lean on the network, both people you know and workers in the industry, and ask how they have done it. Their experience will be advantageous to you”

After graduating at IED Barcelona, where she studied a Master’s degree in Fashion Design, she decided to propose one of her ideas to Mango. As a result, Recovo was born, a circular solution start-up for the fashion industry that transform fashion waste as a resource.

“At Recovo, we are committed to projects that seek to positively impact the planet and defend the regeneration of nature. If we had to choose a direction to follow for the coming years, it would be the development of innovative materials and processes that allow us to reduce the use of natural resources through R&D or biodegradable raw materials”, explains in her interview with IED Alumni.
