Reach high and achieve a rewarding career

Arboriculture is your first choice if tree maintenance and sustainability are important to you. Work outdoors and climb trees for a living. You will learn how to safely access trees and carry out pruning, maintenance and tree removal works. Identify trees and assess their health, suitability and longevity. The Certificate III in Arboriculture is designed to train you in the most up to date techniques available to this trade, using highly specialised equipment that meets industry best practice and legislative standards.

The industry body is the VTIO – Victorian Tree Industry Organisation. The VTIO covers a broad range of disciplines within the industry including ongoing training.

Employment outcomes

Incorporated with a trade certificate, this nationally recognised qualification will allow you to gain employment as a qualified Arborist in the tree maintenance industry. This could be with local government or tree maintenance contractors who often service government authorities as well as the private sector.

There is currently a high demand for industry professionals within Australia and overseas.

Entry requirements

Melbourne Polytechnic minimum academic level differs depending on the course. Most certificate and diploma level courses require evidence of completion to studies equivalent to Australian Year 11 or 12, bachelor degree courses require evidence of completion to studies equivalent to Australian Year 12, and master degree courses require evidence of completion to studies AQF (Australian) Bachelor degree or overseas equivalent.

If you do not meet Melbourne Polytechnic’s academic entry-level requirements but have acquired skills or knowledge relevant to your chosen course, you may apply as a mature age student. A mature age student is considered to be over 18 years old, and has been out of full-time education for at least one year.
