About Archaeology, MA - at The University of Haifa

The UHaifa International Master of Arts program in Archaeology offers an exceptional opportunity to dig deep into the past in one of the most dynamic centers of prehistoric research in the world providing a profound understanding of human evolution. Our program is an open invitation to literally explore and discover, in depth, the development of humanity and human culture through experiential learning.

Both a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a biosphere reserve bridging Europe, Asia and Africa, our hands-on fieldwork on Mount Carmel has revealed a nearly 500,000 year-long sequence of human evolution. Seen in caves, rock shelters, and open-air sites along mountain valleys and the nearby coastal plain, the findings here are unmatched by any other region in the world. These key sites have preserved critical evidence of the dynamic evolution of modern humans, previous Neanderthal populations, and human expansions out of Africa, alongside a magnitude of cultural, environmental, and agricultural challenges.

The program is part of the University of Haifa's globally renowned School of Archaeology and Maritime Cultures (SAMC). The first of its kind to integrate the full scope of research domains on land, at sea, and in the lab under one roof, SAMC offers a prestigious international professional network and a fascinating learning environment.
