About Master of Social Sciences in the field of Psychology, MSocSc - at The University of Hong Kong

The Master of Social Sciences in the field of Psychology [MSocSc(Psychology)] course is designed to:

  • Provide university graduates in fields other than psychology with an opportunity to acquire a foundation in psychology with a strong understanding of psychology theories and research methods, and an ability to communicate and apply their knowledge of psychology in real life;
  • Help students develop research competence in psychology, thereby enabling them to pursue advanced professional training and careers in psychology and related fields; and
  • Develop students a level where they are eligible to apply for graduate membership of the Hong Kong Psychological Society and the British Psychological Society, and become eligible to apply for the programmes leading to the degrees of MSocSc in Clinical Psychology and in Educational Psychology degrees, as well as postgraduate research degrees in psychology.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the courses leading to a taught postgraduate qualification, a candidate:

a) shall comply with the General Regulations;

b) shall hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;

c) shall satisfy any other admission requirements which may be prescribed from time to time for the relevant curriculum; and

d) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to high degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b).

An application for exemption from the above requirements shall be considered on a case by case basis.
