Fontys Academy for Circus and Performance Art (ACaPA) of Fontys Fine and Performing Arts offers a four-year full-time study program with a pioneering, distinctive artistic shape. The international orientated study leads to an internationally recognized academic bachelor diploma of professional education as Circus performer and has a highly qualified team and a clear misson. We also offer exceptional training facilities and an established network to bring you on the international stages.
Contemporary circus
Since more than two decades, circus revitalizes as an authentic art, which takes inspiration from other Performing and Fine Arts. At the same time, circus enriches these art forms and stimulates ground-breaking contemporary creation in performing arts. The term 'contemporary circus' includes not only the so-called 'New Circus' (which is often assimilated to circus theatre), but all present-day types of circus art. A professional circus performer is a highly-skilled artist, mastering one or two circus techniques at an exceptional level. In addition, he has extensive skills and knowledge in other art forms (dance, theatre, performance art, scenography, music) and is able to experiment, to mix up and to merge these art forms, and to give meaning to his performances. He masters techniques of creation and gives individual shape to his performances. He works either as a solo performer or as a member of a group. He is able to work both as interpreter and as author/creator. As an entrepreneur, he is able to manage his professional career, to promote himself and to position himself as an artist within society.

Admission
The deadline for application is end of April. In order to be admitted, students must be eligible for higher education through a diploma of secondary education / high school diploma with good results.
This means:
Talented prospective students with a different education have to take a test to prove capability of studying at a higher professional education level.
Audition
Prospective students have to apply for an audition. The purpose of this examination is to select the most talented students, who at the same time are most likely to meet the requirements of the education and the requirements of the profession.
The audition will take place in Tilburg, the Netherlands and consists of two rounds. The first round lasts 1-2 days and consists of the following activities:
Success in the first round admits the candidate to the second round that contains classes in circus, theatre and dance and an individual motivation talk.
Language requirements
The program of Fontys Academy for Circus and Performance Art is in English and a minimum English language proficiency is required. The English language proficiency must be proved by submitting an IELTS (minimum score 5,5) or TOEFL test result (minimum score TOEFL 525 / TOEFL comp 196 / TOEFL internet 70 / TOEIC 620 / Cambridge ESOL FCE-C). Students who cannot submit one of these tests will have to do a language test (interview with Head of Studies during the audition).
